The PPE network Europe is an informal network of academics in the interdisciplinary field of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) and related fields. It aims at bringing people together to discuss synergies and collaborations in research and teaching in this field, by organizing an annual conference and other events that are shared via the network’s email list. Although the majority of our members are based in universities in Europe, academics from all over the world who are interested in PPE can subscribe to the email list and attend events.
We are committed to rigorous scholarship and academic teaching that prepares students for facing the multiple, interconnected challenges that our societies face, from climate change to persistent poverty, or social injustice. We are committed to human rights and democratic values, and interested in how economic institutions can be brought in line with these values. We are open to different methodological approaches and different schools of thought in philosophy and economics, including also the history of P, P, and E. We welcome discussions across the boundaries of these fields, but also with people working in sociology, psychology, law, or other relevant disciplines.
We do not at this point receive funding from any foundations or trusts, but rather organize self-funded conferences in order to stay independent. At the moment, we do not raise a membership fee.
The steering committee currently consists of Erik Agner (Stockholm), Constanze Binder (Rotterdam), Ben Ferguson (Warwick), Francesco Guala (Milan), Katherine Furman (Liverpool), Lisa Herzog (Groningen), and Roland Luttens (Amsterdam). You can get in touch with any of us if you have questions or suggestions. To be added to the email list, please email Lisa at l.m.herzog@rug.nl.
We are independent of the US-based PPE Society and have nothing to do with “personal protective equipment” (or other meanings of PPE).
