BA Programme, PPE at Charles University (Prague)
PPE at Charles University (Prague) is a 3-Year Bachelor’s study programme (BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics) modelled closely on the Oxford PPE. A large cohort of students from six continents is accepted each year, with only about 20% of students coming from Central Europe. The programme is hosted by Charles University’s Institute of Political Studies, in close collaboration with the Institute of Economic Studies, both parts of the Faculty of Social Sciences. PPE Prague aims to provide students with a solid grounding in economics, political science, including international relations, philosophy with a special focus on critical thinking and ethical issues in international political and economic relations. The emphasis is placed on learning to analyse complex social, political and economic problems in a multidisciplinary manner and to solve them from complementary perspectives. Due the multicultural composition of the student body, in all three components of the curriculum, the global and cross-cultural dimension of the problems explored in the classroom is highlighted. Since traditionally the PPE study programmes aim at educating civic, political, media and business leaders, students are strongly encouraged to engage in diverse social activities, both at university and outside of it, in order to develop leadership skills, as well as a sense of responsibility for their actions and for the people around them.
