Established during the 2019–2020 academic year, the Department of Politics and Economics stands as the youngest department within the Faculty of Political Science (Mülkiye) at Ankara University. The department offers an English-language program that admits 40 students per cohort, all of whom are selected based on their performance in the nationwide university entrance exam.
Mülkiye, the oldest institution of social sciences in Turkey, boasts a rich history dating back to 1859. Renowned for its esteemed reputation, Mülkiye has consistently produced graduates who are committed to upholding egalitarian and progressive values within Turkish society.
The department provides a pluralistic curriculum in political science and economics. To ensure a solid foundation, students undergo introductory social science courses during their first two years. Upon completing the first two years, students have the opportunity to explore a wide range of elective courses within the political science or economics modules. Alongside traditional subjects, we offer modern courses such as “Data Science,” “Machine Learning,” and “The Economics of Internet,” reflecting the evolving needs of the contemporary world. Our curriculum, continuously updated and refined, encourages students to make informed specialization choices shortly after gaining a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of social sciences.
